Greetings!
I get emails from readers who assume that because of the ideas I write about, I must live a very quiet and peaceful life. Let me clear that up! While my goals always include being spiritually fit and emotionally balanced, unfortunately many times that’s not my reality. My best efforts aren’t always enough. I sometimes have problems with my own willingness as well as with the relationships I have with family, friends and colleagues. But I will say that the core of my being is consistent. My desires and hopes are always for right thoughts, that will drive right actions and achieve right results.

Positive Thought of the Week

I will work from a center that is loving, forgiving and grateful. I will focus on being mindful of others. I will be generous with what I give and not be concerned with what I get in return. I may fall short from time to time, my thoughts and behavior may not always be the shining example of what I want to be, but falling short is not a reason to quit. I will not change my self-image because of a few bad thoughts or actions. But I will challenge myself everyday to grow above pettiness and small mindedness to become a better person. When I shoot for the stars and only hit the moon I am still on the right track. Today I choose to shoot for the stars!
Business Thought of the Week

Metrics, schMetrics. Every organization measures stuff. They measure quality, units per hour, time off and a million other things. I will change my focus and create a competitive advantage by seeking out and measuring enthusiasm, commitment and positive energy. I will learn to find, celebrate and reward the special differences that my people bring to work everyday. These measurements are not created from reports but from a place of knowing my people and interacting with them regularly. Once I hire right and train well, the only competitive advantage I can create and sustain is the level of commitment to mission, vision and values my people bring to the workplace every day. I don’t just measure different things I measure things differently.

Wow, Florida in the summer! Sometimes I wonder why we moved here, but it will get much clearer in December and January! I was approached by our local NPR station a few months back about having my own weekly radio show. It looks like it’s definite for this fall! I will keep you in the loop. I am also working with a local musician friend to put together a song for an up coming event at the end of August. It will be great fun if I can pull it off. I’m sure I’ve mentioned that I was a lead singer in a rock band many years ago. This will be my second attempt to combine my singing with a keynote. Wish me luck!
All the Best,
John
